O Caminho para a Distância (The Path to the Distance)

Rio de Janeiro, Schmidt Editora, 1933

Vinicius de Moraes’s first book  already had in the title the dramatic aspect that crossed his youthfulness poetry. With a strong interest in the ideas of Catholic intellectuals and the metaphysical of Rio de Janeiro that time, the poet invests in long verses about turbulences of his soul and inner spiritual conflicts that set the tone of the group. Otavio de Faria, América Jacobina Lacombe, Augusto Frederico Schmidt and Lucio Cardoso were some of the names who took part in the young Vinicius’s life and intellectual orientations.

With the first poem published in 1932, in the Catholic magazine “A Ordem” (The Order) led by Alceu Amoroso Lima, the career as a poet of the young college student at the Law School of Catete was sealed, although it was still a not intense one. His almost complete filiation to the Catholic themes turns his debut a sketch still far from what, at the very next book, in 1935, already indicates a poet in motion. His verses run slowly towards broader topics than the Catholic issue. In this book, we still read a poet who looks at the world through faith, never losing, however, the troubled point of view of the soul.

Bibliographical Note

O volume traz o seguinte texto introdutório:
